Blossfeldia pedicellata – World's Smallest Cactus Seeds
Blossfeldia is the smallest cactus in the world: spineless, ribless, button-shaped bodies barely half an inch across that grow from cliff cracks in Bolivia and Argentina and can survive almost total desiccation. B. pedicellata is one of the named forms, now usually lumped under B. liliputana. The seed is dust-fine and the seedlings are tiny, so this is a project for a patient grower — most are grafted at a few months old to speed them up.
Germination
Advanced. Sow the dust-like seed on the surface of fine, sterile mix, keep warm (75–80°F) and sealed with high humidity for a month or more; germination in 2–6 weeks. Keep seedlings under cover and lightly misted for their first year.
What you'll receive
Fresh seed (very fine — handle carefully) in the pack size you choose, with germination instructions included. The first image is an illustration of the species.
Care
Bright, filtered light; very free-draining soil; light water in the growing season and dry in winter. Grafting onto Pereskiopsis or Hylocereus is common and dramatically faster.
About this seed
This is one of a small number of species we don't yet produce in quantity ourselves, so the seed is sourced from established US growers we trust, then stored cool and dry here on our farm in Blythe, California and sold fresh. Everything else we sell is grown on site in full desert sun.
Ships within 1 business day, Monday–Friday.
