Opuntia monacantha f. variegata

Opuntia monacantha f. variegata is the variegated form of a prickly pear species native to the coastal regions and lowlands of Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and northern Argentina. Each pad is splashed with creamy white, soft green, and pink marbling — no two pads are ever quite alike — and new growth often emerges with a rosy blush that deepens in strong sun. This variety develops a notably strong, woody central stem as it matures, and pads sometimes curl or twist in unpredictable, sculptural ways that give each plant its own personality. Mature specimens reward you with beautiful satiny yellow blooms, often followed by reddish-purple fruit. A fast, forgiving grower that loves heat and full sun.
