Opuntia basilaris, the beavertail cactus, is a low, nearly spineless prickly pear native to the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts, common around Blythe. Its grey-blue pads turn purple in winter and are topped with brilliant magenta flowers in spring. Watch the glochids — tiny barbed bristles at each areole.

What you'll receive

An unrooted pad, similar to the one pictured.

Care

Full sun, little water, hardy to around 10°F. Let the pad dry a week, set it upright in dry soil, and wait 2–4 weeks before watering.

Shipping

Shipped bare root, cleaned of soil, within 1 business day Monday–Friday, with a live arrival guarantee. If anything looks off on arrival, send us a clear photo within 48 hours before cutting or repotting — most post-shipping blemishes resolve on their own.
