You will receive unrooted pads taken from the exact Opuntia cacanapa plant pictured. This is a particularly striking “spineless” variety, known for its smooth texture and intense blue-gray coloration—especially vibrant in full sun. While called “spineless,” it may still have occasional small glochids (tiny hair-like spines), so handle with care.
🌱 About Rooting & Planting:
These pads are unrooted but root easily in well-draining cactus or succulent soil. Allow the cut end to callous over for 3–7 days in a dry, shaded area before planting. Then, place the pad upright, burying the bottom inch into the soil. Water lightly after 10–14 days, then gradually increase as roots develop.
📍 Native Region:
Opuntia cacanapa is native to southern Texas and northeastern Mexico, where it thrives in dry, rocky soils and full sun. It is drought-tolerant and well-suited for arid and semi-arid climates, making it a great addition to xeriscapes and cactus collections.
☀️ Care Tips:
• Full sun preferred
• Minimal watering once established
• Cold hardy to approximately 15–20°F with dry soil
Size Options:
Small pads are usually much thinner and take longer to root. Large pads are thicker, heavier and will root quicker and more reliably.
